We started trading in June 2005 with just one location in Bridgwater, Somerset. Husband and wife team, Keith and Cathy ran the business on their own, doing everything from meeting and greeting customers to sweeping the floors and cleaning the toilets! As you can imagine at the time finances were very tight. We could not afford to heat our home and we were often working long hours, sleeping at the facility at times.
We soon won a couple of awards, first at the Somerset Business of the Year Awards winning New Business of the Year in 2005 for a business under 1 year old. We followed that up the following year by winning 1st Place for Young Enterprenuer at the Somerset Business of the Year Awards 2006. These awards were supported by the FSB, Somerset County Council, Lloyds TSB Business (as it was named at the time) and Business Link amongst others.
In 2011 we followed these awards up with an Excellence In Customer Service award from storage.co.uk, it's something we've always prided ourselves in. Proper customer service for us is not about buzz words like "going the extra mile", it's getting things right on a consistent basis. No one is perfect all the time but if we get something wrong we want to treat people with respect, be friendly and ideally send all customers away happy. We aim to be a company that customers feel they can call up and talk to, ask any question they like and get the help they need.
When we finally managed to branch out and open our second self storage in Taunton, it was like our new baby and as a small business we were stretched like new parents. Our small team all working extra hours and being pulled here there and everywhere as we tried to make it work. It was tough but as you probably guessed, it was a success. It was then a little while before we opened up in Bristol and had to play with the big boys! They probably didn't take much notice of us at the time (and still probably don't) but we managed to eek out a little niche for ourselves in West Bristol. We begged, borrowed and stole (off our Bridgwater branch) what we needed to get going, steadily getting enough customers to pay the bills and bring in new technology.
As we’ve added each new site the approach hasn’t changed, with the same care and attention given to each one. We now have a team of excellent staff who help us take care of everything but we haven’t forgotten where we came from.
We like each customer to be greeted with a friendly smile and a warm welcome. We also haven’t forgotten what it’s like to be on a tight budget and so we aim to offer an excellent service but we also aim for it to be well priced too. We don't always get to see or speak to our customers now as they can do everything online from getting a price, to booking and checking in. However we hope your experience of our company is the way we always hoped and planned. Friendly and efficient. We know we won't always get everything right but we'll certainly try and if something does go wrong, we'll try our upmost to put it right. You can't say fairer than that!

I had occasion to use UK Storage when I sold 2 properties and needed to store the contents while my new house was being built. They made what was potentially a very stressful situation easy. When I was clearing my first house, I only had a few days' notice of proposed completion. I chose UK Storage and I'm glad I did. I filled in the form and was phoned almost immediately checking that the info was correct. I was moving furniture from Wales and the company phoned to check that Tunstall was the right location for me as there was a nearer storage unit. I explained that I was moving to a new house nearer to Stoke. So everything was confirmed and dealt with efficiently. On the removal day I needed an extra unit which was supplied promptly without hassle. My next move was 6 weeks later when just one unit was needed. Again everything went through smoothly. The premises are clean and modern and secure. All 3 units were on the ground floor. I had occasion to visit once on my own. As a single woman I felt very safe there, both inside and outside. The price was very reasonable. Every transaction was smooth and seamless. I can absolutely recommend UK Storage and would use them again myself without hesitation.
